In April 2021, PARM will report back to G20 as part of its Stocktaking Exercise in preparation for the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting 2021. The ministerial event is scheduled to take place on 19-20 September 2021 in Florence, Italy.

The Stocktaking Exercise will be a key opportunity to share PARM’s consolidated achievements over 2020 while highlighting the importance of agricultural risk management for empowering businesses along the value chain as well as the livelihoods of those involved in the agricultural sector. As well as PARM, other international initiatives will be reporting to the G20, such as the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) and the Group on Earth Observations Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM).

This year the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting will focus on three broad, interconnected pillars of action: People, Planet, Prosperity. Within these pillars, the G20 aims to take the lead in ensuring a swift international response to the COVID-19 pandemic – able to provide equitable, worldwide access to diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines – while building up resilience to future health-related shocks.

Climate change, extreme weather events, animal and plant pests and diseases, and shocks external to agriculture, such as COVID-19 pandemic, threaten food systems across the world, can cause food shortages and exacerbate price volatility, and require common and effective responses. The G20 is committed to promoting research to increase the resistance of crops to plant diseases, pests, and abiotic stresses and to the impacts of climate change. Country members will seek to strengthen their cooperation by exchanging relevant information on technologies that promote the resilience of the agricultural sector.
