The Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) has officially become a member of the InsuResilience Global Partnership (IGP), marking an important step to bolster mutual collaboration. This is a key acknowledgment of PARM’s reputation and continued dedication to strengthening the resilience of agricultural value chain actors.

IGP is made of more than 75 partners from governments, civil society, international organizations, academia and the industry, all of which support the Partnership’s vision of strengthening the resilience of developing countries and protecting the lives and livelihoods of poor and vulnerable people against the impacts of disasters.

Through this membership, PARM gains enhanced access to knowledge, finance, expertise, and services, as well as an increased opportunity to contribute to future policy, practice, and investments. Within IGP, PARM sits alongside a range of distinguished institutions, including some of its donors and strategic partners and its host organization – the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

“In joining this partnership, PARM hopes to engage with the global multi-stakeholder community of countries, experts and practitioners; better understand the need and demand for financial disaster risk solutions on the ground; and access a global network of specialists,” says Massimo Giovanola, PARM’s Lead Technical Specialist.

Stronger together

PARM and IGP have collaborated in multiple opportunities. For instance, both have supported a research initiative aimed at making climate insurance gender inclusive in Ethiopia, counting on key efforts from the PARM-managed Insurance for Rural Resilience and Economic Development (INSURED) programme.

In addition, the two institutions have joined forces to disseminate knowledge products focused on Gender and Climate Risk Finance. In 2020, the Forum for Agricultural Risk Management in Development (FARM-D) – a community of practice managed by PARM – and IGP have launched an ongoing Live Talks series that has so far resulted in two webinars and respective publications with key insights from the discussions.
