From October 2018, PARM fully integrates FARMD into its knowledge platform. This marks an important step towards stakeholders’ effort to deepen and strengthen knowledge capturing and sharing on the evidence, best practices, lessons learned, advocacy and policy mainstreaming on agricultural risk management (ARM) in developing countries.
PARM is a multi-donor platform established out of the G8-G20 discussion on food security and agricultural growth. Since 2013, PARM has made enormous efforts in generating and sharing knowledge and creating learning opportunities in agricultural risk and risk management in developing countries. Last year, PARM was widely recognized as the top global knowledge hub on ARM. In particular, the Platform was referenced in G20 and G7 strategic documents and featured during the United Nations SDGs Partnership Exchange.
Among the remarkable successes at the country level is Uganda where PARM has increased stakeholders’ perception of agricultural risks by identifying, assessing and generating knowledge documents on the priority risk affecting the agricultural sector. It is partnering with NEPAD, MAAIF and many other stakeholders to mainstream ARM into Uganda’s Agricultural Sector Development Plan (ASDP) and the Framework Investment Plan (FIP).
With this progress in ARM knowledge generation and sharing activities, many stakeholders including the World Bank acknowledges the need to further deepen and widen PARM’s knowledge-based activities for enhanced agricultural growth and food security. In this end, the World Bank has transferred and assigned to PARM to assume the sole responsibility for day-to-day operation of the FARMD knowledge hub, including, but not limited to editorial, technical, web security and financial aspects of the operation and maintenance of the existing website.
The Forum for Agricultural Risk Management in Development (FARMD) is a network of practitioners seeking to share experience, information and knowledge in agricultural risk management. FARMD is open to interested individuals and organizations working in agricultural risk management, mainly in developing countries. Please visit the FARMD membership page to learn more about the different types of membership affiliations.
The new PARM-FARMD knowledge hub provides a much broader space for knowledge capture, learning, sharing and capacity building through constructive AgRisks webinars, conferences, blog posts, policy talks, policy dialogues as well as academic and practitioner lectures to advance stakeholders’ knowledge to reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen investments in the agricultural sector.
To mark this new beginning, PARM-FARMD is organizing a webinar “Agricultural Risk Management: practices and lessons learned for development” on 20th October 2018 at 3 pm (Rome Time) to share experiences on ARM best practices and pillars for a holistic approach to risk management and mainstreaming.
