Agricultural meso-level operators, including extension services providers, farmers’ organizations and cooperatives represent an optimal channel for reaching many smallholder farmers and serving as the bridge to policymakers at macro-level. This feasibility study explores information systems for these identified operators. Specifically, it reviews existing information systems relating to weather variability, pests and diseases, and price volatility. It also explores the opportunities to enhance the availability and accessibility of information in a timely and cost-effective manner through efficient dissemination channels. Towards the end, the study outlines recommendations and a corresponding investment plan for an integrated agricultural risk and early warning information system to help the meso-level operators and smallholder farmers better manage risks.
